Tap Into Calm: How Tapping Can Help Ease Anxiety, Stress, and Emotional Overwhelm🧘♀️
Grounding practices help quiet anxiety by reminding the body it is safe in this moment.
In moments of anxiety, panic, or emotional overload, the body often reacts faster than the mind. Your heart may race, your breath may shorten, and your thoughts can feel scattered or overwhelming. While talk-based coping skills are powerful, sometimes the nervous system needs something physical, gentle, and grounding to return to balance.
This is where tapping, also known as Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), can be a valuable everyday tool.
At Heart 2 Heart Therapy, we believe in offering practical strategies that clients can use outside of sessions to support emotional regulation, calm the nervous system, and restore a sense of control.
What Is Tapping (EFT)?
🧠✨ Tapping combines gentle fingertip tapping on specific acupressure points with mindful awareness of thoughts or emotions. It helps calm the nervous system by sending signals of safety to the brain.
Tapping is often used to support:
Anxiety and panic attacks
Stress and overwhelm
Emotional regulation
Trauma responses
Racing thoughts
ADHD-related dysregulation
Sleep difficulties
You don’t need special equipment, experience, or perfect technique — just your hands and a few minutes.
Why Tapping Works
Tapping helps regulate the fight-or-flight response by activating the parasympathetic nervous system (the body’s “rest and restore” system).
When you tap:
The body receives calming sensory input
The brain shifts out of survival mode
Emotional intensity often decreases
Focus and clarity can improve
🌿 Tapping works with the body, not against it.
The Benefits of Tapping
✨ Some key benefits of incorporating tapping into daily life include:
✔️ Easy to learn and use anywhere
✔️ No cost or equipment required
✔️ Supports anxiety and panic relief
✔️ Helps ground the body during stress
✔️ Encourages emotional awareness
✔️ Complements therapy and mindfulness practices
✔️ Can be adapted for children, teens, and adults
Tapping is not a replacement for therapy — but it can be a powerful support tool between sessions.
A Simple Breathwork Practice to Pair With Tapping
Sometimes the most powerful reset begins with a deep breath in…and a slow release out.
🌬️ 4–5–7 Breathing Technique
This breathing pattern helps slow the nervous system and reduce anxiety.
Inhale through your nose for 4 seconds
Hold your breath for 5 seconds
Exhale slowly through your mouth for 7 seconds
Repeat 3–5 times
This technique is especially helpful during moments of panic or emotional escalation.

👐 Grounding Tapping Sequence (Beginner-Friendly)
Using your fingertips, gently tap each point while breathing slowly:
Side of the hand (karate chop point)
Eyebrow (inner edge)
Side of the eye
Under the eye
Under the nose
Chin
Collarbone
Top of the head
As you tap, you can quietly say:
“Even though I’m feeling anxious right now, I am safe in this moment.”
Repeat the sequence 1–3 times, adjusting the phrase to fit how you feel.
💛 There is no “wrong” way to tap — intention matters more than perfection.
Using Tapping in Daily Life
Tapping can be used:
Before stressful meetings
During anxiety spikes
When emotions feel overwhelming
Before bed to calm the mind
After triggering conversations
When transitioning between tasks
🕊️ Even a few minutes can make a noticeable difference.
